Emergency services are at the scene of a "serious incident" in Ballisodare, County Sligo.
Irish rail have confirmed the train struck two young girls believed to be on the tracks near Collooney.
It's understood they tried to get out of the way but didn't clear the tracks in time.
Irish Rail says it's halted its train from Dublin to Sligo.

Irish Rails says the 100 people currently onboard the train will not be allowed to disembark for some time.
Rail passengers will be accommodated with bus transfers between Boyle and Sligo for the time being.
