Dessie Byrne & Muriel Eriksson
One of the victims of a double drowning incident in Co. Kerry will be remembered for his community work, according to a local councillor in his native Roscommon.
50 year-old Dessie Byrne and his 62 year old sister, Muriel Eriksson, had just begun their holidays in North Kerry, with Muriel visiting form Sweden.
Dessie got into difficulty shortly after 6pm yesterday evening at Men’s Beach in Ballybunion and was pronounced dead by emergency services a short time later.
Muriel was found in the water and was also pronounced dead at the scene.
The family had been holidaying in Kerry at the time and Dessie's son was at the beach when the tragedy occurred.
Leas-Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council, Laurence Fallon, says the entire community of Lecarrow is rallying around the Byrne family:
