Around 500 Privates, Corporals and Sergeants could now remain in service
The Minister for Defence Simon Coveney has announced an increase to the mandatory retirement age for enlisted service members.
Privates and Corporals who were recruited since 1994 can now remain in service up to 50 years of age.
Sergeants can now continue to serve beyond 50 years of age.
The change in policy will allow for around 500 personnel to continue in service beyond 31st December 2022, subject to certain criteria including the passing medical and fitness tests.
2,000 military personnel are stationed at the Defence Forces Training Centre at the Curragh Camp.
