Children's Health Ireland will face questions over spinal surgeries at Temple Street, at an Oireachtas Committee today.
Its Chief Executive Eilísh Hardiman is expected to apologise for the level of care given to children and young people at the hospital, and the harm they've endured as a result.
She will tell TDs and senators that children who underwent spinal surgeries at Temple Street hospital in Dublin did not receive the level of care they were entitled to and deserved.
This follows the serious concerns identified by CHI on the poor outcomes in spinal surgeries at Temple Street, as well as the use of a certain spinal technique and the use of unauthorised implantable devices.
Hardiman will also tell the committee that CHI is 'distraught' that one of the young people included in the reviews has died. Several children suffered 'catastrophic complications' after spinal surgery in Temple Street, with patients having to return to the operating theatre 11 times on average.
