Shamrock Rovers moved to the top of the League of Ireland Premier Division after a 1-0 win over St Pat's.
Shamrock Rovers underlined their title credentials with a narrow but significant victory over St Patrick's Athletic's at Richmond Park.
The reigning champions took control early, with Jack Byrne scoring what proved to be the decisive goal inside the opening 10 minutes. That early strike was enough to separate the sides in a contest where Rovers largely dictated proceedings.
St Pat's, who had been unbeaten at home prior to this fixture, did create chances to respond. Ryan Edmondson came closest in the first half, forcing a strong save from Ed McGinty, while further opportunities came and went as the hosts searched for an equaliser.
Despite some improved attacking intent after the break, the Inchicore side struggled to break down a well-organised Rovers defence.
The result extends Shamrock Rovers' unbeaten run to eight games and sees them climb to the summit of the table, while St Pat's drop to second after a second defeat in five days.
