Kildare backed Proposal B well short of the 60% majority required.
The proposed changes to the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship have both been defeated at the GAA's Special Congress.
Kildare were among the counties who had come out in favour of Proposal B,
The motion sought to introduce a league-based format to the Championship, but just 50.6% of delegates voted for it, falling short of the 60% majority required.
It followed a hour long debate around the motion.
Former President Sean Kelly argued that voting against it would amount to the GAA turning their backs on their players.
Many opposed to the motion indicated they were in favour to a change but not the proposed format.
Proposal A was soundly defeated, with 90 percent of delegates voting against it.
Option B has been defeated 50.6/49.4 Lost.
