Rory McIlroy's hopes of challenging for the US Open title have faded after a difficult third round.
McIlroy slipped down the leaderboard after carding a two-over-par 73, leaving him tied for 17th heading into the final round.
The Northern Irishman briefly moved into contention with a strong front nine, but a run of bogeys after the turn ended any realistic hopes of catching leader Wyndham Clark.
Clark takes a six-short advantage into the final round, while McIlroy now faces an uphill battle to climb the standings and secure a high finish.
