In total it received just below 70,000 referrals last year

TUSLA, the child and family agency, saw a 'concerning' decrease in referrals to child protection and welfare services during the beginning of the first lockdown.

In total it received just below 70,000 referrals last year, and believes it dealt appropriately with the Covid stay at home rules.

Those are among the comments its chief executive will deliver when he appears before the Public Accounts Committee later today.

Bernard Gloster is due to examine the agency's 2020 financial statements with TDs.
