Ireland's newest Senator has been elected.
Disabilities campaigner and security analyst Tom Clonan will replace Ivana Bacik in the Seanad, after winning the Trinity College by-election last night.
He will be the 27th senator to represent the university since 1938.
Mr. Clonan received 5,358 votes after the 16th count, beating Maureen Gaffney by 160 votes.
He says he was shocked to win:
Tom's son Eoghan has Pelizaeus-Merzbacher disease, which is a rare and progressive condition that affects the central nervous system.
He has said Eoghan will be his inspiration in the Seanad:
