Thousands Step Out at Dawn in Support of Mental Health

Around 80,000 people took part in Darkness into Light events in ireland and around the world this morning.

Thousands of people across Kildare and the rest of Ireland were up before sunrise this morning to take part in Darkness into Light in support of Pieta.

The annual event raises funds for suicide and self-harm prevention services, with Pieta estimating that around 80,000 people registered for events worldwide this year.

From walking and running to horse rides, kayaking and tractor rallies, communities came together to remember loved ones and to show support for those struggling with their mental health.

The largest event took place in Dublin's Phoenix Park, where around 10,000 people completed the 5km route as darkness gave way to dawn.

Since it began in 2009, Darkness into Light has raised more than 40 million for Pieta's free crisis support services.
