TDs voted 104 votes to 49 in favour of extending the current temporary fuel excise cuts

This afternoon’s emergency Dáil sitting has been told no Government can "completely insulate their country from a global energy shock".

TDs voted 104 votes to 49 in favour of extending the current temporary fuel excise cuts until November.

The extension is set to cost €407million and will be fully phased out by February.

The Tánaiste has described the extension of temporary cuts to excise duty on petrol and diesel as "breathing space for families and businesses".

The cut is worth 32 cents per litre of diesel, 27 cents per litre of petrol and over 7 cents per litre of green diesel.
