Tax cuts and cost-of-living payments will mean the average worker will pocket an extra €1,000 in next week's budget.

Tuesday's budget is expected to see cuts to income tax and the Universal Social Charge, as well as help with paying rent and electricity bills.

Government departments will spend the weekend finalising their spending plans for the next year.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said he wants to ensure 'work' is rewarded and people 'keep money in their pockets'.
