Around 4.8 million cigarettes have been seized by Revenue officers at Dublin Port.
They have an estimated retail value of around €3.8 million, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of almost €2.97m.
With the assistance of detector dog Milo, the cigarettes, branded 'Lambert & Butler', were discovered in a consignment which originated from the Netherlands and was manifested as "plastic pipes" and "rubber seals".
Investigations are ongoing.
