Gardaí have carried out 1,300 checkpoints over the past week as part of the Christmas Road Safety Campaign.
Over 2,300 drivers were detected speeding.
Some notable cases were a driver caught doing 128 kilometres per hour in an 80 kilometre zone in County Monaghan, and another travelling at 117 kilometres per hour in a 100 kilometre zone in County Cork.
