Dublin, Cork and Galway are amongst the counties that will benefit from plans

Nine infrastructure projects are going to be fast-tracked under new critical infrastructure legislation.

Dublin, Cork and Galway are amongst the counties that will benefit from plans set to be announced by Public Expenditure Minister Jack Chambers.

The Metrolink, the Galway Ring Road and Cork's commuter rail are amongst the ventures expected to be announced as critical infrastructure later today.

The projects are being recommended for fast-tracking by Minister Chambers, after he received cabinet sign off on Wednesday.

Once formally approved by the Government, state bodies will be legally obligated to accelerate the approval and delivery stages of these infrastructure builds.

State bodies will have to confirm compliance with the plans, and outline what steps they're going to take to support delivery.
