Newly-qualified teachers will be able to get a permanent contract within a year - under new measures announced by the Education Minister.

Helen McEntee says it's in an effort to boost teacher numbers and give them certainty, "particularly when applying for mortgages".

Those taking up their first contract this September will be eligible for permanency in September 2026 - a year earlier than usual.
