The system is due to be dismantled by 2024.
The Government's plan to abolish Direct Provision by 2024 is a "pipe-dream", according to a body representing asylum seekers in Ireland.
The Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission will today warn the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Public Petitions that the Government’s white paper on direct provision is "already behind schedule".
Spokesperson for the Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland Bulelani Mfaco says 4,000 people are currently waiting to see receive guidance on their asylum:
