Ireland's minimum wage is the sixth highest in the world.

The hourly rate increased by 80 cent to €13.50 at the start of this year.

Luxembourg has the highest rate in the world at €15.24, however, minimum wage workers in the Netherlands, earning €14 an hour, were found to have the best spending power.

Head of Policy with the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, Dr. Laura Bambrick, says people on minimum wage here face high costs for food and accommodation:
