GP's under added pressure due to Covid, Flu and RSV infections

The Irish Medical Organisation has announced temporary support measures for the rising demand on GPs as the health service is under increasing major pressure due to Covid-19 infections.

Yesterday (Tuesday), there were 700 in hospital with Covid; 32 of those in intensive care

The Health Service Executive has established a National Crisis Management Team to oversee the response to the surge of winter virus infections.

The IMO said there has been a significant surge in demand for GP care due to the prevalence of influenza, Covid-19 and other respiratory illness.

The organisation says it will work with the HSE to provide support for GPs to run additional clinics.

It said this could mean extended or additional clinics on weekday evenings from 5pm to 7pm and from 9am to 1pm on Saturdays.
