Govt. To Delay Decision On Re-Opening Until Next Week.

The Restaurants Association of Ireland says any delay to the reopening next month would have "catastrophic economic effects".

The government is to wait until next week to decide if the next stage of lifting restrictions can go ahead on July 5th.

Indoor service in bars and restaurants is due to resume from then, along with increased wedding attendance numbers.

But there are growing concerns that could be delayed, due to the spread of the Delta variant of Covid-19.

The strain is now responsible for at least one in five new cases being reported here.

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly says Ministers need to hear from public health officials, before making a decision on reopening:

The Restaurants Association of Ireland says any delay to the reopening next month would have "catastrophic economic effects".

The group say any change to the easing of restrictions would have a financial impact on restaurants as they are preparing for a July 5th reopening for indoor dining.

While, speaking on Wednesday afternoon, the Tanaiste says he can’t provide clarity on whether July’s reopening is going ahead because of the Delta variant of Covid 19.

Restaurant and pub owners have been venting their frustration at the mixed messages coming from Government.
