The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre says Covid-19 restrictions caused further anxiety for victims of sexual violence.

The DRCC publishes its 2020 annual report today, which shows the negative impact that lockdown restrictions had on people living in abusive situations.

Overall, calls to the centre's helpline were down 5 percent on 2019, but webchat and social media contacts were high.

Noeline Blackwell, Chief Executive of Dublin Rape Crisis Centre, says lockdown restrictions made everyday life for victims even more difficult

Just a third of rape and sexual assault victims who started using Dublin Rape Crisis Centre services last year reported the crimes to Gardai.

It had 268 new clients in 2020, with 36 percent contacting Gardai.
