Dublin Metrolink Project Granted Planning Permission

The rail line will take passengers from Swords to the City Centre in 25 minutes.

More than 20 years after first being suggested, a metro for Dublin has got the go ahead.

An Coimisiún Pleanála has approved the plans for a mostly underground rail line that will take passengers from Swords to the city centre in 25 minutes.

No final figure has been given but it's estimated Metrolink will cost more than 10 billion euro and isn't expected to be running until the 2030s.

Stephen Browne from Dublin Chamber said It's very important for business visitors coming to Dublin.

Brown believe's Dublin airport at the moment is probably one of the only airports in Europe that doesn't have a rail link to the City Centre and that's going to be transformative as well.
