Ireland’s first Civic Citizenship Ceremony took place at Dublin Castle in 2011
3,500 people will become Irish citizens today and tomorrow at official ceremonies held in Killarney, Co Kerry.
Over 130 countries will be represented at the events.
The to-be citizens will receive certificates of naturalisation in special ceremonies held at the INEC Arena in Killarney.
A majority of them are from the UK, with India, Pakistan, Poland and Syria the five countries with the most representation.
Ireland’s first Civic Citizenship Ceremony took place at Dublin Castle in 2011.
Since then, there have been 158 ceremonies, with 155 thousand receiving Irish citizenship in that time.
Today and tomorrow’s events will be hosted by Minister of State for Justice James Browne and Minister of State for Disability Anne Rabbitte.
