650m of old backyard water mains to be replaced at Old Greenfield
Uisce Éireann will begin essential water main replacement works in Maynooth next week as part of efforts to secure the local supply and cut leakage.
The project will see over 650 metres of old backyard water mains at Old Greenfield decommissioned and replaced with modern pipes.
Many of the older connections, often made of iron or lead, are prone to leaks and can affect water pressure across entire estates.
Nicola Butler, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said the works will “improve the resilience of the network, eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean water lost into the ground.”
The works, carried out by GMC Utilities Group, are expected to continue until early 2026. They will take place Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm, with a phased Stop/Go traffic management system in place.
Access to homes will be maintained throughout, though some short-term water interruptions may occur.
Customers will be given at least 48 hours’ notice in advance.
