A major crackdown on illegal horse activity along the Barrow Blueway has led to the seizure of six animals.
Following reports of horses and sulkies being driven on the Blueway in recent weeks, Athy Gardaí and Kildare County Council launched a joint operation to investigate.
The operation uncovered a location where horses were being kept in breach of local bye-laws.
As a result, four horses and two foals were safely removed from the site.
Gardaí in Kildare are praising the coordinated response - saying the action helps ensure the Blueway remains safe and accessible for everyone.
The Barrow Way is a scenic 120-kilometre trail that follows the course of the River Barrow.
A former canal towpath, it’s now a popular route for walkers and cyclists alike.
Starting in Robertstown, County Kildare, the trail traces the Barrow Line to Athy, where it joins the river’s towpath. From there, it winds its way south through Rathangan, Monasterevin, Carlow, Leighlinbridge, Muine Bheag, Goresbridge, Borris, and Graiguenamanagh, before finishing in St. Mullins, County Carlow.
