The 11.35-hectare project will see the demolition of 17 old buildings, including the old officer’s mess and a water tower, to make way for 375 residential units and new community amenities.
Kildare County Council has granted plans for a large-scale redevelopment of the former Magee Barracks site on Hospital Street in Kildare Town.
The plans were recently re-submitted after the developer let planning permission granted in 2019 expire.
The 11.35-hectare project will see the demolition of 17 old buildings, including the old officer’s mess and a water tower, to make way for 375 residential units and new community amenities.
The development includes a mix of houses and apartments, ranging from one to four-bedroom units, in buildings up to five stories.
It will also feature a neighbourhood centre with three retail units and a two-story childcare facility with an outdoor play area.
Infrastructure improvements include 639 parking spaces, bike and bin storage, and a new signalised junction to ease access.
Upgrades to Hospital Street, including cycle lanes and enhanced pedestrian crossings, will improve connectivity to the area.
