A status orange thunderstorm warning has been extended until 10 o'clock tonight.
The alert for heavy downpours of rain and hail, now applies to Munster and counties Kildare, Wexford, Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Wicklow and Dublin.
Met Éireann has said torrential downpours and thunderstorms are possible in parts of Leinster and Munster until later tonight and that flooding may occur following the heavy downpours.
The record high temperatures for August were broken twice over the past couple of days.
