There was a nationwide decrease of 1% in the number of dwelling units granted planning permission in Q1 of this year.
The figures decreased from 8,177 from Q1 in 2025 to 8,092 at Q1 of this year.
Houses accounted for 61% of all dwelling units granted planning permission in Q1 2026, while apartments made up the remaining 39%.
In Kildare, 146 houses were approved as well as 92 apartments.
It's a decrease from Q4 2025, when Kildare had the highest number of granted planning permissions at 421 units.
The number of one-off houses receiving planning permission in Q1 2026 rose by 12.4%, up from 1,230 units in Q1 2025 to 1,382 units in Q1 2026.
Across the four local authorities of Dublin, there was an annual fall of 34.0% in the total number of dwelling units approved in Q1 2026 to 1,452 units. Of these, the number of apartments approved was down by 31.6% (1,556 units to 1,064 units), while the number of houses approved decreased by 39.7% (643 units to 388 units).
