Kildare Impacted As Eastern Region Sees Sharp Increase In Theft and Burglary

There has been a substantial increase in burglaries and related offences, according to the latest CSO crime figures.

The largest rate of increase for incidents involving burglary and related offences was for the Southern region at 23%, followed by the Eastern region, including Kildare - up 9%.

The Dublin Metropolitan Region (DMR) had the lowest rate of increase at 5%.

Nationally, burglaries increased by 10% in the 12 months leading up to September last year.

The majority of this rise was due to non-violent burglaries, though violent burglaries also saw a 15% increase.

A total of 9,981 burglaries were reported, averaging more than 27 per day.

Across the country, theft offences continued to rise, up 7%, with six in ten crimes involving shoplifting.

Incidents involving thefts rose by 11% across the Eastern region, including Kildare.

Nationally, there were also rises in kidnappings, firearms and explosives offences, and public order offences.

Violent crime increased as well, with attempted murder, assaults, and related offences rising by 3%.

There was 12% less incidents of homicide recorded in the third quarter of last year.

There was also a fall in the number of recorded sexual offences and drug related crime.
