There are renewed calls for a bin to be installed at the bus stop on Straffan Road in Maynooth following a spate of illegal dumping.

A spokesperson for the Maynooth Tidy Towns Association said they “couldn’t believe their eyes” and condemned the incident as a case of “deliberate dumping.”
The group is urging the local council to place a bin at the site to help deter future incidents.
Local residents also voiced their frustration on social media.
One user noted that not having a bin “at your convenience” is no excuse for littering.
Social Democrats Cllr Peter Melrose said he has long been advocating for more bins in the area and described the situation as “disgusting.”
“I’ve been advocating for more bins, but really this is just ignorant dumping,” he said, adding that he would be using the images taken by Tidy Towns to strengthen his case with the council.
