Government Advances Plans For Public Transport Police Force

Gardai have recently carried out patrols on the DART, Luas and eight intercity train routes, including Newbridge, Kildare Town, Monasterevin, and Athy, with calls growing for a dedicated team to monitor public transport.

The Government is progressing with plans to launch a dedicated public transport police force.

It's hoped a recruitment drive will be in place before the end of next year.

The uniformed security team will be granted powers of arrest, detention and pursuit.

Transport Minister Darragh O'Brien says the measure can't be rushed.
