Waterways Ireland crews are currently installing wayfinding signage along the route, a job due to finish early next year.

Kildare County Council says key elements of the long-awaited Barrow Blueway are now in the final stages of delivery.

In response to a question from Monasterevin-based Councillor Kevin Duffy (FG), officials confirmed that the new pedestrian bridge west of Spencer Bridge in Rathangan is close to completion - with an expected public opening in early 2026.

Snagging on the overall Blueway works continues, with issues being signed off by the contractor and the local authority as they arise.

The Council’s Strategic Projects and Public Realm team is also drawing up a formal launch plan for the Blueway, and says further details will be issued once confirmed.
