The Kildare and West Wicklow Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (KWWSPCA) is an organisation that provides crucial support to the community, all ran by volunteers.
Kfm visited the premises, based in Athgarvan, to see firsthand the day-to-day operations, chat about animal welfare issues that have been making the headlines recently, and get an update on the KWWSPCA's proposed new premises.

Making the headlines has been the XL Bully ban, which was implemented in October 2024 following a spate of attacks in Ireland, including the death of 23-year-old Nicole Morey after being attacked by her dogs, including an XL Bully.
Owners of XL Bully dogs have until February 1 to apply for a Certificate of Exemption to legally own their dog.
Following this report, the KWWSPCA announced that they are offering free neutering of XL Bullies for low-income owners ahead of the February deadline.
