The main aim of the fund is to support groups, particularly in disadvantaged areas
Some €318,757 in funding has been granted for 141 Kildare Community projects under the Community Support Fund confirmed by Minister Heather Humphreys today.
The fund was launched in November 2022 with total funding of €10m available. The main aim of the fund is to support groups, particularly in disadvantaged areas, with their energy bills, as well as with improvements to their facilities
This is a once off fund provided by the Department of Rural and Community Development and administered by the Local Community Development Committee with support from Kildare County Council.
Kildare South Fine Gael TD and Minister Martin Heydoncommented: I know these grant awards will be a great boost for the local Kildare groups who have been successful.
"Many of these groups are run by volunteers who are managing funds in difficult circumstances. This additional funding will help with continuing costs and in some cases add to existing facilities.
“Government is keen to support locally led, ground-up projects in local communities across Kildare and the country. This funding is all about giving a helping hand to our local groups and clubs with their energy costs, whether it’s the electricity bill, insurance costs or other overheads.
“While these grants are small in nature, they can make a big difference by allowing local community organisations to carry out much needed works in their area," concluded Minister Heydon.
Senator, Fiona O'Loughlin of Fianna Fáil commented: "The breath of organisations receiving this funding shows the huge community spirit and the amount of work our volunteers and community activitists do everyday right around the county.
"All kinds of groups from Newbridge Womens shed, to Rathangan Community Association, to Athy sign and sing and everything inbetween," she added.
