Councils paid out more than €54m in compensation for public liability claims last year, in figures released by the Irish Independent
39 claims mostly related to slips and falls were made against Kildare County Council in 2023, according to figures released by the Irish Independent this morning.
The total cost of claims was €713, 238.
In figures provided to the Irish Independent, Councils paid out more than €54m in compensation for public liability claims last year – with the vast majority relating to slips and falls on footpaths.
This is a 15.7% increase from 2022, when €46.8m was paid out.
Dublin City Council paid out €19.4m last year, with falls on footpaths being the top cause of claims.
In South Dublin, 175 claims were made, with the cost amounting to €3,397,401.
In Wicklow, 105 claims were made, with a total cost of €1,264,572.
No figures were provided by Carlow county councils.
