Decision on next Scottish Parliament

Scottish elections are taking place today, in a ballot that could decide whether there is a second referendum on independence.

At your polling station today you will find yourself looking at two ballot papers, one peach and one purple.

The election will also decide the next Scottish parliament, which has considerable power over health, education and income tax.

The Scottish National Party is tipped for a fourth term of office.

The party's hopes of a majority are on a knife edge, which is seen as central to the country's independence hopes.
