At least 19 people are thought to be missing after a powerful mudslide swept over a town in Japan.

Officials say a deluge of black water and debris has crushed rows of houses and vehicles in Atami - west of Tokyo - following torrential rains.

A rescue operation is underway with evacuation warnings also in place.
