SOCCER

Both Liverpool and Chelsea secured big wins in the Champions League last night.

Having lost their last four games in all competitions, Liverpool returned to winning ways with a 5-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany.

And Chelsea beat Dutch outfit Ajax by the same score line at Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham played out a goalless draw with Monaco.

There were also wins for Real Madrid, Sporting, Bayern and Galatasaray, while it finished nil-all between Atalanta and Slavia Prague.


Shelbourne will look to pick up a first ever win in European league phase football tonight.

Joey O'Brien's side go away to Shkendija of north Macedonia, with kick-off at 5.45.

Shels took a point from their opening round fixture against Hacken of Sweden three weeks ago.

Shamrock Rovers are also in action tonight - they bid for their first points of the campaign at home to Celje of Slovenia.

 

Sean Dyche takes charge of Nottingham Forest for the first time tonight.

The former Everton and Burnley manager will be in the dugout for their meeting with Porto in the Europa League.

Aston Villa are also in action - they go away to Go Ahead Eagles.

Danny Rohl's reign as Rangers head coach begins with a trip to Norway to face Brann.

Celtic aim for their first win in the competition when they host Sturm Graz.



SNOOKER

There's an all-Irish clash at the Northern Ireland Open later today.

Cork native Aaron Hill goes up against Antrim's Mark Allen in the last 16.

Their meeting, which is the best of seven frames, is scheduled to begin at 3pm.

Jordan Brown faces Shaun Murphy this evening.

 

GOLF

Seamus Power is in the field for the PGA Tour's Bank of Utah Championship, which begins later today.

He tees off just before 20-to-4 (Irish Time)

 

RACING

There's a seven-race card at Clonmel this afternoon just after 20 past 2.
