A controversial proposal to remove five counties from the Allianz Hurling Leagues looks set to be shelved.

The Irish Independent reports the plan will be pulled before this weekend's meeting of the GAA's Central Council.

Under the proposal, Cavan, Fermanagh, Leitrim, Longford and Louth would be removed from league competition, as there are less than five active adult hurling clubs in those counties.
