Ireland's Daniel Wiffen has set a new European record in the 800m freestyle final at the World Aquatics Championships.

The County Down native just missed out on a medal in Japan after finishing in fourth place.

He clocked a time of 7minutes 3.919 seconds.

Wiffen already booked his place at next year's Olympics when he set a new Irish record in his semi-final.

Elsewhere Danielle Hill came 13th in the 50 metre Backstroke with the time of 28.10.

That saw her miss out on a place in the final.
