Urgent Action Required To Deal With Shortage Of GP's In Ireland.

Ireland is facing a severe GP workforce shortage and workload crisis.

Bold, innovative action is urgently required to deal with a the serious shortage in the numbers of GP's in Ireland.

A joint body of research carried out by the Irish College of General Practitioners and Association of University Departments of General Practice in Ireland found we are facing a severe GP workforce shortage and workload crisis that is negatively affecting the high-quality of care for patients.

The report among others recommends calling for the promotion of Academic Internships in General Practice as well as developing and resourcing a structured GP Specialist Training Academic Pathway.

Dr Diarmuid Quinlan Director of the Irish College of GP's said serious problems will arise when a significant number of GP's retire in the next three years:
