It happened at around 10.30 last night while the PSNI was investigating reports of a heavily intoxicated couple causing a disturbance at a property on Ferryhill Road.
The man and woman left the scene in a white Mini-Countryman vehicle which failed to stop at a nearby junction, hitting a police car.
It continued to ram the car with the officers inside, forcing it up onto a grass verge on the opposite side of the road.
The two police officers were left badly shaken, and an appeal has now been launched to track down the vehicle involved.
