The Tanaiste warns that no one was expecting a war.

The Tanaiste says the Ukrainian crisis means things here will be 'tough for a while'.

Households are already facing spiralling fuel bills while there are concerns about possible food shortages and the state will have to provide financial support for Ukrainian refugees who come here.

Yesterday, the price of oil spiked to its highest level since 2008 as the crisis in eastern Europe continues.

The cost jumped by more than 6% to over €139 a-barrel - although it has eased back since.

The United States and European allies are exploring banning imports of Russian oil, after a request from the President of Ukraine to isolate Moscow further.
