Taoiseach 'Confident' The Government Will Survive No Confidence Motion

The motion has been brought forward by Sinn Féin.

The Taoiseach has said he's 'confident' the government will survive tomorrow's no confidence motion.

Micheal Martin said there would be a real doubt over a September budget if a general election was held.

The Sinn Féin motion will be debated tomorrow night in the Dáil before going to a vote, with Labour, People Before Profit and Social Democrats having said they will support the motion.

It comes just a week after the Government lost its majority in the house, following Fine Gael TD Joe Mc Hugh's decision to vote against the Mica redress.

Mary Lou McDonald has pleaded with Independent TD's not to vote with the Government.

“Two years on, we believe that this government has now run out of road. They're out of time. They're out of ideas,” she said.

The Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald has claimed the Government is “out of road” in confirming her party is to table a no-confidence motion.

Ms McDonald has said it is important that the opposition hold the Government to account.

However, Taoiseach Micheal Martin has said ensuring a budget goes through, is their priority now:
