Witnesses say the shaking could be felt as far away as Shanghai in China.

Taiwan's biggest earthquake in a quarter of a century has killed at least seven people, and injured more than 700 others.

The tremor, estimated at between 7.2 and 7.7 in magnitude, left buildings at different angles and triggered landslides.

Witnesses say the shaking could be felt as far away as Shanghai in China, and tsunami warnings were issued for southern Japan and the Philippines.

At least 77 people are trapped in tunnels and collapsed buildings.
