Stephen Donnelly's Loss Marks Major Blow For Fianna Fáil In Wicklow

Counting of the general election votes resumes this morning.

161 TDs have been elected to the 34th Dáil so far.

12 seats are yet to be filled in the next Dáil, with counting complete in 38 of the 43 constituencies so far.

Counts in Kildare North, Louth, Cavan Monaghan, and Tipperary North are continuing this morning, while a recount has been requested by a People Before Profit candidate in Cork North Central.

35 votes separate Mick Barry and Labour's Eoghan Kenny.

Outgoing Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly is the latest candidate to lose their seat, becoming the most high-profile loss of the election so far.

The Fianna Fáil Minister missed out on the final spot in Wicklow this morning, with Fine Gael's Edward Timmins getting in instead.

As it stands, Fianna Fáil are on 43 seats, followed by Fine Gael and Sinn Féin, who both have 36.

The Social Democrats have 11 seats, while Labour has 9.

The Green Party has just one elected TD, following leader Roderic O'Gorman's win in Dublin West yesterday afternoon.
