Sexual Assaults On Irish Citizeins Travelling Abroad Has Risen, According To New Findings

There’s been a 130 percent increase in the number of people getting treatment for sexual assault following a holiday or period of travel abroad.

People who have been sexually assaulted while abroad are being urged to attend treatment units in Ireland.

It follows a new study which found a significant rise in the number of sexual assaults on Irish citizens while on holidays, or travelling.

Author of the study, and Rotunda Hospital forensic examiner, Dr Daniel Kane, says the rise in cases highlights the importance of services in Ireland.

He says it’s not unusual for people to report sexual assault at home, rather than in the country where it occurred
