Rules Around Cabins And Modular Homes Could Be Relaxed In New Effort To Boost Housing Options

The Department of Housing is considering exemptions that would mean the free-standing structures wouldn't need planning permission

Efforts to boost housing options could see the rules around cabins and modular homes in back gardens relaxed.

The Department of Housing is considering exemptions that would mean the free-standing structures wouldn't need planning permission.

The Government is considering allowing the cabins to be rented out or used by relatives.

It's thought size limits would apply and a certain amount of space would be needed.

As it stands, extensions of up to 40sq/m to a home can be built without planning permission.
