The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine is to review the Animal Welfare Act, to tackle puppy smuggling.
It's after a call from the Sinn Fein senator Lynn Boylan, who says the dogs are being taken from their mothers too early, and sold.
She believes the number of animals exported is still too high despite the act, and wants it strengthened to ensure proper living conditions, vaccinations and paperwork.
Senator Boylan says there's one gaping hole in the Act that needs to be amended
