The woman who rescued the animal claims a group of young people threw it into the water, and when she tried to stop them, they pushed her in too.
Last Wednesday, a woman rescued a rabbit from a canal in the Dolphin’s Barn area of Dublin after allegedly witnessing a group of youths throw the animal into the water.
Despite her pleas, the youths threw the rabbit and pushed the woman into the canal when she tried to intervene.
Both the woman and the rabbit, now named Cracker, were taken to a nearby Garda station following the incident.
The DSPCA says animal cruelty has reached a "new low".
They said the rabbit, which has been named Cracker, is doing well in its care, has put on weight, and will soon be ready for adoption.
